“Lifetime Achievement Award for Chinese Ceramic Art” recipient Pan Chunfang’s direct disciple Xu Guanxin made this teapot, newly decorated by Chinese Ceramic Art Master Yuan Shiwen: 【Eight-Treasure Palace Lantern】
Handcrafted from aged Taixi purple clay with a greenish hue, the 520cc teapot has an octagonal body with crisp, well-defined contours.
The knob, lid, spout, and handle are designed symmetrically with the body, with the eight sides meeting in a clean, lively composition, symbolizing flexibility in all directions and wealth coming from every direction.
The body features openwork panels depicting eight spirited horses, so lifelike that they could be called a historical masterpiece.
Teacher Zhang Zhenghai used the teapot as his canvas, vividly carving the horses in various poses with both realistic form and spirit, giving it extremely high collectible value.
