Every teapot enthusiast has a Gongchun pot in their heart. In the history of Chinese Yixing teapot culture, Gongchun was a pioneering figure. His surname was Gong, and his given name was Gongchun. During the Zhengde period of the Ming dynasty, Gongchun accompanied the jinshi Wu Yishan to Jinshan Temple as a young book attendant. He collected the hand-washing clay that had settled at the bottom of the basin after the old monk washed his hands and, using the burl of the large ginkgo tree in the temple as a reference, created the “Gongchun pot, with raised spiral lines that can be pressed.” The Gongchun pot is more precious than gold and jade. With a golden toad as the teapot knob, it symbolizes attracting wealth and is a welcome addition to any collection for appreciation.
